Chester Funnye was the 1st Black President of the American Public Works Association serving in 1988. In his career, he worked as a civil engineer for various federal departments in Washington, D.C., before relocating to Atlanta in 1972, where he served as Commissioner of Public Works under three mayors, including Maynard Jackson and Andrew Young.
Mr. Funnye passed away in 2002 but his legacy will live forever more.
