ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)
· Receives emailed locate request from EDEN (Georgia 811).
· Conducts field visits of request locations.
· Locates and marks city utilities in compliance with State of Georgia standards.
· Enters correct notification code to EDEN website.
· Contacts excavator to resolve questions concerning the locate site.
· Maintains locate marks during the duration of the excavation; communicates with excavator throughout the project.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Knowledge of locating procedures, equipment, and tools.
· Knowledge of city utility locations.
· Ability to interpret survey plats and engineering design plans.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, city officials, and contractors.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Natural Gas Operations Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this assignment is to locate and maintain the city’s utility mains and services. Errors may result in harm to self and others or delays in the provision of utilities to customers and to environmental and health hazards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Physical demands typically include standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, frequently lifting light objects, occasionally lifting heavy objects, using tools/equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and the need to distinguish between shades of color when working with electrical wire and paint.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Associates degree required.
· Less than one year of related experience required.
· Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
